The defense of the Rattanakosin rested on four pillars: the Chao

A protective wall built along the canal. Fourteen

Road still stands, and so is the old gate.

From 1851 - 54, during the reign of King Rama IV, the third
Ring Canal was built. This was the Padung Krung Kasem
Canal, the longest of the three rings canal stretches from
Thewet in the north, past the Hua Lam Pong Station in Bangrak
South. This time, Chinese laborers dug the canal.

During the reign of King Rama I, threats of invasion

River Cruise in Bangkok - Sightseeing on the Chao Phraya

A river cruise in Bangkok gives an insight to the community
life on the Chao Phraya River and the legacies on this river of
kings, a picture of stark contrasts.

It needn't have to be an elaborate affair; you can cut the frills
and expenses. Plan the river cruise yourself for a more
meaningful Bangkok sightseeing tour from the Chao Phraya
River.

The Chao Phraya River is the longest river in Thailand
stretching 370 km from Nakhon Sawan, more than 200 km
north of Bangkok. The river runs past Bangkok to flow
in the Gulf of Thailand in Samut Prakan to the south.

Chao Phraya is also the highest title in ancient Thai nobility,
like the Duke in the British aristocracy. The title is no longer in
use.

Attractions, sights and views in a boat trip on the river in
Bangkok

This river cruise from the Sathorn Pier near the Taksin
Bridge, five minutes walk from the Taksin Bridge skytrain
Station, the terminus for trains from the city center.

Drive north past picturesque water front hotels like
the old Oriental Bangkok where famous writers like Joseph
Conrad and Somerset Maugham left their mark.

The first recommended stopover, in a boat trip on the river in Bangkok,
Ratchawong the pier, the leading Yaowarat Chinatown,
Soi Sampheng Chinatown, which started and Soi Sun Yat Sen
named after the father of the ChineseRevolution.

The Memorial Bridge, the next stop is dedicated to King Rama
I, the founder of Bangkok. His monument, near the bridge,
depicts King Rama I on a throne, staring at the bustling city, which he
was founded more than 220 years. Pahurat, the Indian
Community in Bangkok is further inland.

Historical aspects of the Chao Phraya

Further upriver on the Thonburi bank, near the mouth of the
Bangkok Yai Canal, the white walls of Fort Vichai Prasit
come into view. This was an old Ayutthaya fort built in 1688.
King Taksin's Palace is here in the complex that's now the
Royal Thai Navy HQ.

In addition to this old citadel, stands the glittering Wat Arun, Temple
built by Dawn, a temple in the Ayutthaya era.

The Bangkok Yai Canal and the Bangkok Noi Canal, further
upriver, used to the original course of the Chao Phraya
River.

This long meander was through a channel in 1542 to straighten
shorten sailing time to Ayutthaya. The new canal subsequently
became the present course of the Chao Phraya River.

The river cruise in Bangkok will now pass the most majestic
sight along the Chao Phraya River, the Grand Palace and the
Temple of the Emerald Buddha in old Rattanakosin, the
historical center, which is the origin of modern Bangkok.

The Thonburi bank, across from the Grand Palace, is where
old communities have lived long before Bangkok was
Founded as the capital. The Bangkok Noi Museum, more
Inland, preserves the history of these communities.

The Royal Barge Museum is located in Bangkok Noi canal located
near the Phra Pin Klao Bridge.

The boat trip on the river continues in Bangkok Phra Sumen Fort,
Built in 1783 to strengthen the old town. Near the mouth of the
Banglampoo the channel, the second protective canal ring, it is
one of the two remaining forts left from the BangkokEra.

River life and scenes on the Chao Phraya

On the banks can see rickety old wooden houses on stilts
in stark contrast to the spanking new houses and
Condominiums. The noodle vendor in a boat they sold food from
House to house, such as offering riverside restaurants in the vicinity of the restaurant
some of the piers.

The most spectacular bridge across the Chao Phraya River
thrust into a boat tour on the river in Bangkok is the King Rama
VIII Bridge, a suspensionBridge, which stands out like a giant
Harp over the water. Bang Khun Phrom Palace, which houses
Bank of Thailand Museum is nearby.

Bridges across the Chao Phraya River serve as useful
Interest in a boat trip on the river in Bangkok. Some piers located
in the vicinity of these bridges are named after them. You underrun
eight bridges across the river cruise.

Further upriver, life gets less touristy and more rustic,

Travel Thailand: A Farang Fashion Faux Pas

I arrived in Bangkok in April, knowing it would be hot, but was set as the average 106 ° weather out of action. After a chaotic trip to my guesthouse, through the most amazing traffic, I collapsed on the bed in nothing but my birthday suit. Before arriving in Thailand, I had researched what to pack. "I wanted to bring comfortable clothing, but also pieces that would be for the various wats or temples I planned to visit properly.

To Thais, being sabai jai means that a contented heart,Referring to a calm mood. Foreigners or farang are to behave in a contradictory manner, being easily frustrated and rawn exhibiting a quick temper or jai.
I promised myself that I would be in the mix of my new surroundings and maintain valued as an inner peace in the land of smiles.

On my second day in Bangkok, I was headed in the former Thai capital Ayutthaya and the Royal Summer Palace Bang Pa-In. Forget all of my carefully selected couture, I threwof the best pieces that I had. Dressed in a sleeveless tank and black cotton skirt, hit above my knee, off we went. That was the end of my inner and outer peace was.

As soon as I stepped on the bus, I realized that I had forgotten the dress code, but it was too late. My neighbor was an impeccably dressed woman who looked shocked by my British presence. She avoided conversation and eye contact with me and we rode to Ayutthaya in silence.

Unable toto the fullest enjoy the Buddha statues and architecture that spanned centuries, I was by the thought that I was offending past and present Thais consumed. I was especially distracted when all my bare bits were in the company of monks. Overheated, sweaty and red spotted, we drove to our next stop, Bang Pa-In the colonial-style summer digs for the Royal Family. We were told that clothing would be made available to his knees and shoulders are covered, if we are not dressed appropriately. I should have taken theoffer. Instead, I looked in my bag and grabbed a black summer dress, which I had hidden in the last minute. A frilly flamenco looking number, I looked ready for the stage as a stroll through a revered Thai attraction.

I was with my find, and our Thai guide, always polite pleased I said looked good. Off I went, and perhaps overly confident due to my modest clothing, instead stepped on the covered golf carts, I put the rest of the hike. I now understood how asphalt feels inremain the blistering SO The attempt to realize that every so often I would be properly maintained in a stream of water from the sprinkler system to manicure lawn looking green. How I envied that lawn.

Finally, I had to seek withdrawal of the hike and some shade. I looked up and saw two chic young Thai women in jeans and cardigans under a lovely umbrella. They targeted and giggle. I must have a place, a large overheated, beet red woman have gone on in a formal black dress. Ifound out later that like Western culture, black is worn and funerals can be as bad luck. It was certainly bad luck for me.

I had the traveler I vowed not to be, but I knew better. The next day, wearing modest clothing, I smugly hopped a water taxi and the doors of the Grand Palace complex managed. Unexpectedly, led the police dress me a number of farang waiting to enter a small white building. On my turn a woman handed me a pairSocks. I pulled the socks, slipped on my shoes and I walked away. I went to the inner entrance of the Grand Palace but guards stopped me again, pointed at my feet, and pointed back the way I came. I turned around and started to get impatient, hot and frustrated. My jai rawn was already my second day in Thailand! As I rolled back in the hot sun, I watched smiling, perfectly prepared Thai women dressed from head to toe in warm looking clothing. I was so jealous ofher rest!

Back on the trailer, the attendants looked apologetic and handed me a pair of sport sandals. Over time, I made it back to the entrance, I was sweating in the socks, long pants and modest shirt. After a few minutes I was again starting to overheat. I clicked a few photos and rushed to the wrong exit. At first I thought I was not hired, but if I ever cried: "mai sabai" the guards knew I was not well and quickly let me pass. Embarrassingly, Ime again with ice and water.

Eventually, I began to fit. Once I simply stopped to watch how Thais are trying to be treated with the heat, instead, to recall what I had read, I began to loose cotton clothing, and was much more savvy about sun exposure. In Thailand, the state of tranquility or sabai jai transcends physical appearances. It is intertwined with religion and philosophy, and to think I could accomplish something so intangible night was ridiculous. I had toLet's keep what I thought, I know to find me happy heart.

10 Ways to Beat the Heat in Thailand:

It's hot in Thailand all year round, but if you are affected by extreme heat here a few things to consider when visiting the "Land of Smiles:

1. Although Songkran or Thai New Year is fun to experience, you can avoid to Thailand in April. It is the warmest time of the year, with little escape from the blistering SO I had to miss certainAttractions in Bangkok because I simply could not work in extreme heat.

2. Keep hydrated. Buy a lot of water in bottles and diligent about replenishing every hour.

3. Bring hydration packets with you. I met a woman from California, to me this tip for my next trip to Thailand. You can pick up these packets at sports stores or drugstores and are usually used by athletes.

4. Make sure you bring, loose, light-colored clothing made from natural fibers such as linen orCotton. Sport sandals are a must if you plan to visit the Grand Palace in Bangkok, and a few modest piece of cover to the shoulders and knees.

5. Once you arrive to buy a roof to keep the sun. They are cheap and work well to keep you shaded. See also pretty!

6. Stay near or on the water. The Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, or escape to an island. It is much cooler.

7. Avoid too much sun and wear sunscreen. If you get a sunburn, try a first aid --Vitamin E Ointment. It worked wonders on my burned shoulders.

8. Wear a hat if you do not intend to deal with an umbrella.

9. Get with the monks and most of your visits in the early morning hours.

10. Enjoy the spicy and delicious Thai food! The spice tends to make to salivate and perspire which cools and quenches your thirst.

The Trimurti Shrine - In the Quest for True Love at the Lovers' Shrine

The Trimurti Shrine is Ratchaprasong at the busy intersection in downtown Bangkok at the corner of Central World Plaza (former World Trade Center) shrine across the street from the famous Erawan.

Although less hectic than the Erawan Shrine, the Trimurti Shrine has an aura of its own. Legend has it that filled those who pray here for true love, their dreams. The faithful are mostly local, are usually in the evening to make their offerings of garlands and JossSticks.

Trimurti refers to the trinity of Hindu gods from Brahma, the creator, Vishnu the preserver and Shiva the Destroyer, the three main gods in Hinduism.

The deity is a golden statue of the human body with two heads and four arms. The heads are one on the other, the lower head has four faces.

Built in 1989, the Trimurti Shrine is on a raised platform, sheltered by a dome on four pillars with elaborately carved gableson the four sides. There is an open area around the shrine with a ring of seats for the faithful to sit and reflect.

Be prepared in the classical Indian sculpture with a Thai, the statue is a replica of the original from the old Ayutthaya. Like other shrines in Bangkok, the Trimurti Shrine was built to answer the prayers of the people that success, prosperity and happiness.

The shrine somehow earned the reputation of, the granting of luck in the romance, because it is very popular withyoung Thais who associate the shrine with the god of love.

Legends are based on themselves and how the glory of the pilgrimage site grew in the ranks of believers. That is the reputation of the shrine that it is sometimes referred to as the Shrine of the lovers.

There is a sense of peace and tranquility around the Trimurti Shrine and the place just a natural draw to people. There is a small but steady stream of believers, young couples, pairs of women, single women and men, some of which afterWork. It is not only young though; elderly people were seen there too limited.

As at the Erawan Shrine, the origin of God in the Trimurti Shrine matters not to the believers who are steadfast in their belief that they are the sanctuary to meet their search after happiness.

On Valentine's Day each year, the Lovers' Shrine was decorated with red roses. Flickering red candles cast shadows in the night, as believers flock to the shrine.

Young women with their eyes closed, kneelbefore the Trinity of Gods, clasp joss sticks and pray with an intensity that is etched in their faces. Will their prayers be answered?

The next time you in Bangkok, drop in Shrine of the lovers and says a prayer for true love. Do you feel lucky?

The Trimurti Shrine has moved

The Trimurti Shrine has been out of the corner of Central World Plaza Ratchaprasong at the intersection (near the Erawan Shrine) to the other end, which moved closer to the intersection of Pratunam. TheShrine now stands next to the Ganesha Shrine.

This step was due to the construction work which continues to have in the Ratchaprasong end of the Central World Plaza.
